First Romania-Hong Kong radio astronomy school 2022 (online lectures)

In this lecture series, we will present the small radio telescope observations in Hong Kong, and discuss the corresponding theoretical and observational principle of radio astronomy. The radio astronomy school will consist of four lectures.

Lecturer: dr. Chun-Sing Leung, Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Participation is free. Registration is open until February 22nd at

Lecture 1

Basics, Radio Emission mechanism, and the description of the radio telescope

February 25th 2022, 10:30-12:30 am EET

Lecture 2

Introduction to remote radio observation, including the virtual tour of the Hong Kong Stanley Ho Astronomical Observatory. Simple data processing methods will be presented by making use of fitsviewer or dedicated software written in Python. We will present the data collection algorithms used in the radio telescope. Two different observational methods will be discussed.

March 4th, 10:30-12:30 am EET

Lecture 3

The Anatomy of Two Radio Telescopes, and the quest for higher resolution

March 11th, 10:30-12:30 am EET

Lecture 4

Introduction to 21cm Cosmology

March 18th, 10:30-12:30 am EET
